PASAN begins indefinite strike, shuts Kebbi Assembly complex

Deepening silence and stranded staff best describe the premises of Kebbi State assembly complex in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State as parliamentary staff association of Nigeria (PASAN) begins infinite industrial action.

The usually busy assembly complex has been deserted as members usually holds plenary every Tuesday but today union leaders mans the entrance gate to ensure compliance.

Speaking on behalf of his excos, the state chairman of the association Comrade Anas Ibrahim Sanusi said that, the strike action is to press the federal government to impliment the executive order that was signed by president Muhammadu Buhari to give financial autonomy to all the state assemblies nationwide, he noted that, the executive 2020 was suspended without cogent reason.

“That is why we are complying with the directive of our National body to jion the strike and to shut down the complex.

Sanusi added that, the strike is indifinite until the demands of the union are met.

He stated that they have not been harrassed by security personnel since they shutdown the assembly complex.

He denied rumour of excempting senior staff saying both the management staff and even cleaners have jioned the industrial action.

He pointed out that, lawmakers are even the beneficiaries of the executive order as it will give more power to them and improve checks and balances between them and the executives.

However, a serving lawmaker was refused access to the complex when he show up for work as usual, the member whose name is withheld, who refused to grant an interview as he just returned from a trip but off record said he is in support of what they are doing. 

There are no presence of security personnel at the premises of the state assembly complex the environment is calm.
